JOHANNA KOESLAG

Spinning, Ukrainian Weaving


Johanna is a Master Spinner, and was a member of the Kingston Handweavers & Spinners Guild from 1983-1995. She took Master Spinner classes at Georgian College in Owen Sound, ON during that time for 6 years, and one year of the master weavers course in Brockville.  Johanna participated in weaving study groups and studied spinning of all kinds of wool and blends, alpaca, camel, quiviut, dog hair, mohair and angora, as well as cotton, and linen. She also completed an in-depth study of silk, from growing worms to reeling and weaving the silk.   She led many workshops in spinning and weaving during these years too.  

Johanna moved to Golden Bough Tree Farm in 1994, and raised sheep until 2012. She participated in the Sheep to Shawl (at the Royal Winter Fair) and lots of demos at Fall Fairs, Sheep Dog Trials and Heritage Day events in the Kingston/Napanee area.
