Instrument Making

Learn to build and play an ancient stringed instrument.  The kantele is a traditional psaltery from Finland, built and played by the head of the household for storytelling, customs, and dances for the past 3000 years.  Led by Luthier Matti Palonen, the workshop will cover construction of simple stringed instruments, including instruction about string length and tension.  Participants are encouraged to perform on their completed instrument at the end of the week.
