Kalevala Singing

The workshop participants will learn various aspects required to sing short poems from the Kalevala tradition. This includes pronunciation and general translation of the Finnish text, understanding of the traditional Kalevala melody and improvisation, kantele playing technique from the Karelian region, and harmony from the Ingrian region. Lyric sheets and some kanteles will be available.
