The Kosa Choir is a Toronto based chamber folk choir studying & performing the traditional polyphonic songs of Ukraine. They will be presenting a range of repertoire journeying through the song cycles of the year alongside friends Moskitto BAR, whose sound combines a beautiful and original mix of Ukrainian, Balkan, Iraqi Middle-Easern and French Celtic music.

This is a physically active workshop, where layers of rhythm are overlapped to make some serious groove. Beginners can focus on the main rhythm but as we layer the rhythms up, throw in variations, and add vocals, it can get way more challenging.

Workshop costs include materials, which will be mailed to participants, or can be picked up locally at the Museum in Toronto. Please allow a minimum of 11 days for shipping if you would like your materials delivered.

Join ethnomusicologist and singer Marichka Marczyk and learn interesting facts about spring rituals songs – vesnianky and haivky. Listen to ancient archival audio recordings made in remote Ukrainian villages. Immerse yourself in the beauty of unique melodies from different ethnic regions of Ukraine. Sing along with Marichka in this uplifting workshop of Ukrainian spring ritual music.
This workshop is being offered in Ukrainian, with some English translation by Mark Marczyk, Marichka's life partner and music soulmate.

Ukrainian Village Voices is delighted to present a virtual children’s workshop with folk artist and educator Olya Fryz. Olya will teach songs from her very popular Ukrainian children’s album “Shcho za Hamir” (What a Noise). Get ready for a fun, family-friendly sing along with bandura (58-stringed folk instrument) accompaniment!
Growing up in New York City and performing for many years in the tri-state area, Olya is excited to lead this workshop and to share her love of Ukrainian music with diverse audiences.

Katie is a Toronto based Indigenous (Mohawk and Cree) bead artist, originally from Six Nations of the Grand River. She has over 15 years of experience with both creating beadwork and facilitating beading workshops.
